The iconic skateboard shoe manufacturer Vans is now suing retail outlet Target for selling a very similar shoe design.
According to legal documents obtained by TMZ, Vans is accusing Target of selling shoes that rip the brand’s “Old Skool Shoe” it introduced in 1977. Target’s “Camilla Lace-Up Shoe” hit the market in August.
Vans notes that the Target shoe copies the ‘swoop’ design, as well as other distinctive looks to create confusion. Vans also notes that Target’s customers refer to the shoes as “fake Vans” on their website.
Vans wants the shoes to be destroyed, as well as any profits Target has made from them. Target representatives say they are “aware of the lawsuit” and are “looking into the claims.”
